A NOTE ON DIVIDING FENCES:

Following an extensive review , the state government has released a Neighbourhood Disputes Resolution Bill and explanatory notes and facts sheets outlining new legislation relating to dividing fences, amongst other things.  As you would be aware , as a result of favourable legal precedents established over a long period of time, cane growers have not to date been held liable to contribute to the costs of a dividing fence. This has resulted in savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars for growers. It remains one of the most commonly asked questions of me by growers and district offices.
