Warren Males

Warren Males is the Head - Economics with CANEGROWERS, the peak body for sugarcane growers in Australia.

Warren has more than twenty years executive management experience in the sugar industry in roles spanning marketing, logistics, risk management and international trade and market access having worked for QSL and ASMC. He started with CANEGROWERS in January 2012.  

He was an architect of Australia, Brazil and Thailand’s successful challenge taken in the WTO against EU sugar export subsidies, the outcome of which transformed the world sugar market, to the benefit of all cane sugar producers. Through this, and as coordinator of Global Sugar Alliance activities, Warren has developed an extensive network through the sugar world. He works closely with government and other Australian agricultural industries as a member of the NFF Trade Committee in pursuing the interests of the sugar industry.

With his depth of experience and broad of understanding of sugar industry issues, Warren is well placed to manage CANEGROWERS relationship with QSL and grower pricing issues. He will continue to coordinate the activities of the Global Sugar Alliance and manage the industry’s trade and market access portfolio. Warren will also work closely with growers and the Queensland government on issues related to irrigation, water and electricity pricing.

Warren holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree with Honours from the University of Tasmania, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland (where he was admitted to the Dean’s Honour Roll for outstanding academic performance) and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (diploma awarded with merit).

Warren is Chairman of the Australian Sugar industry Alliance’s Sugarcane – Gene Technology Group. He has a strong interest in the welfare of the older members of our community. Until recently Warren was Chairman of Mercy Aged Care Services governing board and is currently a Director of COTA-Q (Council on the Aging – Queensland).
