1 July 2010:  Greenwood to build on CANEGROWERS strong foundations as CEO

CANEGROWERS has announced that Mr Steve Greenwood will be heading up the peak body for sugarcane growers, taking over the reins as CEO of the strong agri-political body on 30 August 2010.

According to Alf Cristaudo, Chairman of CANEGROWERS, Greenwood was a logical fit, bringing strong backing in the core areas on which CANEGROWERS had established its strong presence on the south-eastern seaboard. “Policy development, lobbying, representation and project management were key to filling the CEO position with CANEGROWERS and Greenwood brings these to the table in spades,” says Mr Cristaudo.

Steven Greenwood comes to the cane industry from membership body, Property Council of Australia, where as Executive Director, he led the charge in advocacy, lobbying, business development with a strong overarching emphasis on public affairs. Membership was a key area at the PCA, as it had been with the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), where he had worked in policy, research, planning, infrastructure and environment.

Greenwood is looking forward to joining one of Queensland’s most iconic agricultural sectors, for which he sees a bright future. “CANEGROWERS has long been known for its robust regional, state, national and international network. You could walk into few other companies with such a full-bodied regional network – we are looking at over 200 locally based staff and grower executives and members scattered along the coast of Queensland. That sort of base is a strong foundation from which to continue the drive for a successful cane industry – from the ground up.”

Alf Cristaudo said the Board of CANEGROWERS had officially confirmed the appointment of Steven Greenwood today. The current CEO, Ian Ballantyne, is bringing some of the big issues on the boil closer to finalisation, before standing back from full time executive responsibility at the end of August.
