Governance

Queensland Cane Growers' Association, Union of Employers (QCGA) is the industrial arm of CANEGROWERS and has been registered as an industrial organisation in Queensland since 1926. It is an association of persons engaged in the sugar cane growing industry as cane growers and employers of labour.

In accordance with the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 the QCGA is transitionally recognised to formally represent the industrial interests of our members within the Federal jurisdiction.

As a consequence of the decision of the Queensland Government to transfer its industrial relations powers for the private sector to the Federal jurisdiction it means that all representation for and on behalf of our members now takes place under the Federal jurisdiction and all employers and employees within the sugar industry are covered by the modern Sugar Industry Award 2010.

QCGA is subject to mandatory reporting requirements as prescribed by the Queensland Industrial Relations Act 1999.

Remuneration of officers for period 01/07/2014 to 30/06/2015
The elected Officers which include the Executive Council Members of the QCGA did not receive any remuneration or non-cash benefits or any amount in the Officer’s capacity as a board member, other than for the costs of travel or accommodation for the Officer to attend a Board meeting during the period 01/07/2014 to 30/06/2015. This information is provided as prescribed under Section 557L of the Queensland Industrial Relations Act 1999.
 
Financial disclosure
The elected officers which include the Executive Council Members of the QCGA did not receive any remuneration or non-cash benefits for the period 01/07/2014 to 30/06/2015 or since 01/07/2015. This information is provided as prescribed under Section 557Q of the Queensland Industrial Relations Act 1999.

Register of gifts, hospitality and other benefits given or received
No gifts, with a combined or individual value over $500, were given or received by the QCGA for the period 01/07/2014 to 30/06/2015 or since 01/07/2015. This information is provided as prescribed under Section 557A of the Queensland Industrial Relations Act 1999.

***Important note:

Superannuation - From 1 July 2015 the Superannuation Guarantee Contribution rate remains at 9.5%

Calculation of Ordinary Hourly Rate - for all purposes of the Award, the Ordinary Hourly Rate for each of the Classifications contained herein shall be the Weekly Rate divided by 38 with rounding on the second decimal place.  The Fair Work Statement refers to weekly wages will be rounded to the nearest 10 cents.

Single Contract Hourly Rate - Employees engaged on a single contract hourly rate shall be paid the number of hours worked per day at 115% of the applicable classification ordinary hourly rate irrespective of the number of hours worked per day or per pay period or the days of the pay period on which work is performed.  Employees engaged on this basis shall be entitled to personal/carer’s leave, compassionate leave and annual leave entitlements.

Piecework Rate - Employees engaged on a piecework basis shall be paid a minimum piecework rate sufficient to equal the payment for actual hours worked at both ordinary time and overtime in the relevant pay period plus a loading of 20%. 

Casual Rate - Employees engaged on a casual basis shall be paid at the hourly rate for the class of work performed plus a casual loading of 25%. This loading is instead of entitlements to paid leave (e.g. personal/carer’s leave and annual leave entitlements).

Shift allowance - The Field Sector Award provides that shiftwork of up to 2 shifts per day may be worked provided that a minimum period of shift work of 4 weeks is in operation and the employees are worked on a roster which allows for rotation through the respective shifts.  An allowance shall be paid for each shift in addition to the employee's ordinary time award wage rate.  Employees engaged on afternoon and night shift shall be paid an additional penalty rate as follows:

(i) Afternoon Shift - 12.5%

(ii) Night Shift - 15%

Note: ‘Afternoon Shift' shall mean any shift finishing after 6.00pm and at or before midnight;

Night Shift' shall mean any shift finishing after midnight and at or before 8.00am or where the majority of hours worked in the shift fall between midnight and 8.00am;

The percentage quoted shall be the amount which is payable for each shift in addition to the employee's ordinary time award wage rate.
