2017 State Election

Issues and actions for the 2017 Queensland State Election

CANEGROWERS members are proud of our $2.5 billion export industry. To continue as a vibrant and valuable contributor to regional communities, it needs an environment in which cane growing businesses can flourish.

During the campaign, CANEGROWERS urged the parties contesting the State Election to commit to actions which will secure the livelihoods of the tens of thousands of Queenslanders who rely on this innovative industry.

Among other things, CANEGROWERS members need the next Queensland Government to

  • Cut electricity prices,
  • Maintain grower choice in sugar marketing and
  • Support environmental sustainability programs without regulating farm practices.

The State Election issues and actions are summarised in this brochure.
Four headline statements explain the themes in more detail. Read the responses from the parties here.
