Every three years, CANEGROWERS holds elections. Every eligible member can nominate for the Board of their local organisation and every member can vote.
CANEGROWERS encourages men and women of all ages to put their names forward. Each district CANEGROWERS election is a democratic process which seeks to have the best candidates representing their fellow cane growers. A Board role can lead to a position on the CANEGROWERS Policy Council and the Queensland Cane Growers Organisation Board.
Elected representatives are in the front seat to contribute to the activities and direction
of our organisation and industry. It is a rewarding and challenging role.
Following a successful call for nominations, ballots will be held for the boards of five CANEGROWERS district companies.
QCGO will run ballots for Burdekin, Tableland and Bundaberg boards and the Mackay Area Committee. Ballot papers will be posted to members in these districts by 13 March and are due back to the returning officer by 5pm on 12 April. Proserpine also requires a vote of members and this will be conducted locally.
Nominations for the board of CANEGROWERS Innisfail remain open until 22 March.
CANEGROWERS can confirm that after nominations were tallied, the following districts received sufficient names to form a board/committee and no election is necessary - Mossman, Cairns Region, Tully, Herbert River, Plane Creek Area Committee, Isis, Maryborough and Rocky Point.
The final results of the CANEGROWERS Elections 2019 will be declared on 15 April and the new boards will take office from 1 May 2019.
