CANEGROWERS has welcomed the election of David Jochinke as President of the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) at the organisation’s AGM in Canberra today.

Mr Jochinke, a grain and livestock producer from Victoria, succeeds Fiona Simson who stepped down after seven years in the role.

“As a foundation member of the NFF, CANEGROWERS works very closely with the national body on matters of agricultural policy,” CANEGROWERS Chairman Owen Menkens said.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Fiona over the past seven years. She has set the highest of standards for what an agricultural leader should aspire to be and has led the NFF through some of the most challenging times to become a trusted and unifying voice for our sector.

“Her dedication and commitment to the role has been inspiring to us all, while her knowledge and leadership on the issues impacting farmers has been second to none.

“Fiona carried out her work in a very composed and collaborative but always determined and forthright manner. She has been a tireless advocate for farmers and agricultural communities and leaves a remarkable legacy.”

Mr Menkens congratulated Mr Jochinke on his election at a pivotal time for the NFF as the organisation seeks to make Australian agriculture a $100 billion industry by 2030.

“David is a worthy successor in the president’s role. He has worked closely with Fiona on the 2030 roadmap, and I am sure he will continue to drive the agenda in a positive direction,” Mr Menkens said.

“CANEGROWERS looks forward to working side-by-side with the NFF to ensure the best outcomes possible for sugarcane farmers and agriculture as a whole.”
