The Advanced Coastal Farming System project forms part of the DAF Reef Water Quality Program.  The Advanced Coastal Farming Systems project aims to increase the capacity of producers to utilise scientifically validated techniques in combination with innovative on-ground solutions that benefit productivity and at the same time provide environmental benefits of coastal farms that operate in Great Barrier Reef catchments. The project will use current AgTech, coupled with good agronomy, to improve input use efficiency in their farming system. Integration of grain legume rotations (like soybean) is a key step in improving the soil health that underpins the state's sugarcane industry.  To that end the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) have invested in the coastal zone specifically to increase soybean production in Australia, through the ‘Supporting the expansion of soybeans in high rainfall zones'  project.
